Illinois' Regional Workforce Management staff are assigned to a specific Economic Development Region. These regions are based on economic and labor market factors that make them logical areas for economic development and workforce planning. Illinois has 5 Economic Development Regions.

Within each region are Local Workforce Investment Areas. LWIA's are geographic service-delivery areas composed of a city, county, or combinations of cities and counties, determined by the governor of each state according to guidelines in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Illinois has 26 LWIA's.
